Bronchitis is a respiratory disease. It is an inflammation of air tubes
which is accompanied by cough, hacking cough, wheeze and begma.
There
are 2 major types of bronchitis: acute and chronic. Acute bronchitis is
a common disease which typically lasts for a short period of time &
is caused by flu, the common cold, or an infection. So, this type of
bronchitis is highly contagious and is hereditary by means of cough,
sneeze & merely by touching objects that have been touched by an
infected person.
Chronic bronchitis is the other kind of the
disease. It protracts for longer period in comparison with acute
bronchitis. Its common symptoms are similar to those of acute
bronchitic: cough and difficulty in breathing. Nonetheless, its causes
are different. Chronic bronchitis is generally induced by smoking,
second hand smoke, a virus and others. As a rule, it is not contagious.
Yet, it not less annoying.
In spite of the different causes, the
two types have a lot in common. Both of them are not susceptible to
antibiotics. The matter is that bronchitis is induced by a virus, &
viral infections do not respond to the germ-killing properties of
antibiotics. They are efficacious against bacterial infections (for
example strep throat and bladder infections). Antibiotics can also lead
to complications, for instance diarrhea & yeast infections.
Moreover, they can undermine your immune system. Therefore, antibiotics
may cause more harm than good when they are not used in the right way.
Whatever
kind of bronchitis you have, it begins with hacking cough and gradually
turns into mucus accompanied by fever, pounding headaches and
exhaustion.
As long as you have the symptoms, your acute
bronchitis is infectious. It you have had this disease for more than
half a year, you should make an appointment with your GP to get
examined for other health problems.
The spread of bronchitis can
be avoided. An infected person should observe a proper hygiene by
regularly washing hands & covering the mouth when coughing.
The
best cure for bronchitis is herbal remedies. They will not damage your
immune system and health as antibiotics can do and aim at the root
causes. Herbal cures are effective against both acute & chronic
bronchitis.
Anyway, it is better to avoid a disease than treat it.
